Master cartridge designer Masao Okada-san of Excel Sound celebrates over 5 decades of innovation and excellence with his new masterpiece, featuring a diamond cantilever and new “OKD” High-Efficiency Moving Coil Generator. In a category first for Hana, the Umami Black incorporates a diamond cantilever, the hardest possible material, ideal for signal transfer.
Another category first, the Umami Black uses the newly developed high-efficiency “OKD” moving coil generator with the world’s first “Integrated Pole Piece and Rear Yoke” and Inverted U-shaped Front Yoke, optimizing energy transfer from the diamond cantilever.

The HANA Umami Blue high-end moving coil cartridge combines the vision of Master cartridge designer Okada-san with the history of unique materials, classic Japanese techniques, and modern audio engineering. The Auricle™ body design, unique and exclusive to our Umami series, is CNC machined from Duralumin. Sharing key Umami Red ingredients, including the precision-cut diamond stylus, Boron cantilever, and high-purity copper wires, then combining these with the Alnico magnet-based generator found in the famous Hana ML, creates the exceptionally musical Umami Blue.

Hana MH/ML
Befitting its name, the M Series uses a Nude Microline stylus, mimicking the cutting stylus and fitting more precisely into the vinyl groove. This enhances tracking to capture the most delicate musical details with better frequency reproduction, stereo imaging, and resolution.

The M Series cartridge body is injection molded from Delrin©, a high-tech polymer with improved mechanical characteristics for better resonance damping, to reveal more low level information and enhance dynamic range.

Hana SH/SL MK II
The MK II upgrade to Hana's globally best-selling S series cartridges enhances their musical performance and value. Master cartridge designer Masao Okada-san implements a new tapered aluminum cantilever with increased rigidity, resulting in a remarkable improvement in transferring groove modulation from the vinyl record to the cartridge generator. The S Series MK II cartridges feature higher specified parts, advanced materials, and unique technical processes from Hana’s higher-priced elite cartridge models, furthering the Hana “brilliant and gorgeous” sound.
Hana SL MK II
Hana S Series MK II cartridges use a new tapered aluminum cantilever with higher rigidity and effective mass reduction at the stylus tip. This results in greater clarity and increased music transfer from vinyl records to cartridge generator. The SL MK II generator, as found in the Umami Blue and ML, incorporates an Alnico magnet and cross-coil using high-purity 30-micron copper wire with an 8Ω impedance. This improves signal-to-noise, reduces moving mass for higher resolution and trackability, and optimizes performance for a broader range of phono stages.
Critical parts, including the Yoke, Pole-pieces, and gold Terminal pins, have been cryogenically treated for a more natural sound. The improved, non-resonant body shape, modeled after the Hana M Series, is damped with a matte Soft Feel Black elastomeric resin paint and features a brass cap with threaded cartridge mounting fittings. The heavier MK II cartridges offer better coupling and expanded compatibility with a wider range of tonearms, improving bass and dynamics.
Hana SH MK II
The Hana SH combines high output with high resolution, courtesy of its special coil design and Shibata stylus. Compatible with standard MM phono stages, a high-output MC provides dynamics, drive, and excellent stereo imaging.

Hana EL MK II
The “E” in the Hana EL MK II stands for elliptical, referencing the diamond stylus profile featured in the E series. Retaining the classic Alnico magnet that contributes to Hana’s rich musicality, the EL MK II version incorporates numerous refinements for superior sonic performance. From the M Series, the updated body design with its brass cap, adds mass for improved vibration control while providing threaded mounting for easier tonearm installation. Shared with the Umami Series and entire Hana range, critical generator components and output pins are cryogenically treated to enhance conductivity and signal purity.
Hana EH MK II
The Hana EH MK II high-output moving coil cartridge represents the best way to upgrade from “starter” MM cartridges that typically come packaged with most entry-level turntables. Echoing the entire Hana range, the E Series MK II body is finished with an elastomeric coating, enhancing resonance control while elevating its appearance. The new E Series MK II, like every Hana model, is handcrafted by skilled artisans in Yokohama, Japan. By combining the essential musicality of the original E Series with proven advancements drawn from both the M Series and Umami models, the new E Series MK II embodies Hana’s next chapter of Evolutionary Brilliance.
